Held for the first time at Lakeside Park in Kingsville, a walk in support of the Kidney Foundation of Canada was a big success as donors surpassed the organizers’ fundraising goal of $7,500.
The Kidney Foundation of Canada – Windsor & District Chapter’s Fund & Community Development Officer Shannon Van Wattegham and Chair of the Windsor & District Chapter Community Advisory Committee Joel Robinet were thrilled with the total brought in by the 55 walkers. They were led by Sandra Stein bringing in a whopping $3,150 along with the top fundraising team No Kidneying Around.
Many local businesses generously contributed to the walk, including Stantec, Willson Construction, Oaks Retirement Residence, Highbury Canco Inc., Olive Branch on Main, Maple Mutual Insurance, Total Home Comfort, The Right Connection, MSSH Law and LaSalle Police Youth Foundation.
With one in ten Canadians being directly affected by kidney disease, the money raised from the September 6 walk will be used for research, patient education and support programs for those living with the disease.

Spencer’s “Fam” Club was one of the teams participating in this year’s Kidney Walk at Lakeside Park. The team raised $1,225 for the cause.
