Orange Shirt Day in Leamington

Several hundred people, including an influx of local students, made the annual Truth and Reconciliation Walk from Caldwell First Nation Headquarters on Orange Street in Leamington to the Roma Club, where they were invited in for a lunch.

Traditional drummers saw the group off before they walked south on Erie Street to bring awareness for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, decked out in a sea of orange.

The day is a time for public commemoration, quiet reflection, and learning about the tragic history and multi-generational impacts of the 140 federally run residential schools that operated between 1867 and 1996.
