It was fun for all ages on September 12 at Thiessen Orchards as they celebrate 50 years of Pick Your Own Apples and serving Leamington and surrounding area.
Saturday’s celebration included a gift of an apple fritter to the first 500 guests through the gates and loads of adventure for families and visitors.
Apple picking season is officially underway now through October 31, open daily from 10 am to 5:30 pm. The orchard grows eight varieties of apples on the farm located at 400 Talbot Road East.
“Celebrating 50 years with so many familiar faces and families was incredibly special,” said Krissy Thiessen. “It was also very meaningful to have three generations of the Thiessen family here together to celebrate this milestone. We’re so thankful for everyone who has made Thiessen Orchards part of their fall traditions over the years. This weekend was a wonderful reminder of how much this place means to our family and our community.”
Thiessen Orchards has grown over the years from humble beginnings in 1976 to a traditional favourite place for many families to enjoy a day on the farm. Thousands of visitors return every year and make it an annual outing for their family, from picking your own apples, to taking part in many of the farm activities such as the corn maze, wagon rides, Little Diggers, Sally the Super Slide, Busy Bee’s race and more.
Special guest character appearances were added to the mix, along with face painting, colouring, farm animals and of course, there is the famous haunted barn.
They also offer a full lunch meal menu and tasty treats, from candy and caramel apples to apple pies and apple cider slushies.
The annual Halloween Extravaganza will be held on Saturday, October 24 from 10 am to 5:30 pm. Halloween costumes are encouraged for an on-the-farm trick-or-treating experience.
