A beautiful May 3rd morning greeted riders from all over southwestern Ontario for the annual Blessing of the Bikes gathering at Kingsville’s First Lutheran Church. A joint venture between the church and Hogs for Hospice, the day promotes having a safe season and fellowship amongst the riders of all denominations.
The blessing was led by longtime rider Pastor Nick Wirtz, who made his way from Phoenix for a second time for just such an occasion.
Following the service, a free hot lunch was provided by the church, while The Power & The Glory entertained with some classic rock tunes.
A member of the Hogs for Hospice Board of Directors shared that this was the biggest turnout that they’ve ever had, far larger than when it was held for a first time 12 years ago.
That same member shared what the event means to riders saying, “It’s all about rider awareness, rider safety and bringing people together in a faith based atmosphere.”
Hogs for Hospice had a merchandise booth set up at the blessing as an invitation to the attendees and to create some excitement for their summer event in Leamington.
Speaking about the upcoming rally at Seacliff Park, a Board of Directors member for Hogs for Hospice said, “We are so excited and humbled that the community has embraced it since the beginning. Churches, restaurants, hotels are all involved, it’s more than an event for a charity, it’s an event for the community as a whole.”
