It was a busy Saturday, May 2 at the Pollinate Kingsville Nature and Garden Show at the Grovedale Arts and Culture Centre.
Hundreds of plant lovers and nature folks descended upon the Grovedale to look for that elusive native plant they’d been wanting, browse the vendor tables and listen to the keynote speakers.
Pollinate Kingsville President Carol Dunn was happy with the turnout and said that the event is a fundraiser for the club, which has a goal of planting 12,000 trees over the next four years throughout the town.
Kingsville Deputy Mayor Kimberly DeYong, who is on the Pollinate Kingsville board, said the former Communities in Bloom group has “blossomed” into a strong advocate for plants, nature and pollination with a recent rebranding.
Kingsville is officially a Bee City and they’ve managed to work a bee into their new logo as well.
As for the show, the native plant sale was a big attraction as well as the keynote speaker Sean James, who spoke on planting flowers that would attract birds to your yard. Also speaking were Laura Foy on birding in Essex County and Sue Novotny, who spoke on getting started with native plants.
