Maya Carey no-hitter propels U13 Knights to fastpitch gold

A complete-game no-hitter by Maya Carey highlighted the Kingsville Knights U13 girls fastpitch gold-medal performance this past weekend in Oakville.

The Knights opened the tournament with a 20-0 win over Nipissing, with Carey striking out 11 over four innings. Kingsville followed with a 14-2 win over Richmond Hill and a 14-0 shutout of Oakville to earn the number one seed and the gold medal in a tournament shortened by rain. Jasmine Charissé and Allyssa Herrera also pitched for Kingsville, neither allowing a single run during their outings.

Home runs by Mia Black and Shannon Moncur led the strong offensive outing for the Knights, who outscored their opponents 48-2 over three games. Ella Fleming, Maddie Cardoso, Izzy Iatonna and Allyssa Herrera all added triples. Every other player recorded multiple hits over the day and were very active on the base paths.

The tournament championship is the second this season for the Knights as they prepare for OSSTA provincials August 22 and 23 in Forest Glade.
