Ride and Stride moves through Kingsville

A sea of green made its way around town on June 6 with South Essex Community Council’s Ride and Stride making its debut in Kingsville.

Beginning at Lions Hall on Mill Street West, bikers, runners and walkers headed west along the Greenway towards Heritage Road, ventured east to Lakeside Park, with a final kick back towards Lions Hall to complete the 5K route.

The fundraiser for SECC will become an annual event in Kingsville, with SECC Executive Director Carolyn Warkentin saying, “We’ve decided to do our own thing and we wanted a little bit more of a presence in Kingsville with our new office opening here.”

A goal of $30,000 was set for the day’s event and was well on its way to meeting its goal with help from lead sponsor UE Enclosures, along with many other generous donations from local businesses and the 70 participants.

Warkentin shared that the lion’s share of the proceeds from this year’s Ride and Stride would be put into youth and settlement programming that SECC offers in our communities.

Warkentin publicly thanked all those that participated and said, “We really depend on these donations and sponsorships to help us do the work that we do in the community.”
