Gators take a bite out of hunger

A generous spirit was in abundance at Gore Hill Public School as students collected an amazing 3,698 items over a two-week campaign this December. Organized by the classes of Mr. Ligotino and Mme Mastronardi, students engaged in a friendly competition to bring in canned goods, winter clothing, toys and hygiene items for the shelves of Leamington’s Salvation Army.

Some students from the organizing classes shared their thoughts on the relevance of their recent endeavour.

Kara Wiebe said, “It’s important we do this because it will really help a lot of people.”

“We are giving to support those that are hungry,” said Chase Pulley from Mr. Ligotino’s class.

Aviane Martin from Mme Mastronardi’s class spoke about the toys and clothing collected, saying, “The toys will help keep the kids entertained over Christmas and the winter gear will help to prevent frostbite.”
