A chilly dip in the lake for charity

More than 100 people plunged into the frigid zero-degree water of Lake Erie on Saturday morning, February 3, as part of the first annual United Way Polar Dip 24.

The dip serves as a fundraiser for United Way/Centraide of Windsor-Essex County, which has a vision to give children in low-income families the ability to achieve their dreams and reach their full potential.

Chief Executive Officer Lorraine Goddard of the United Way said Saturday morning at Seacliff Beach that they were “almost” to their fundraising goal of $25,000. 

“All the dollars United Way raises stays local and supports children in this community,” she said. 

“We have more than 100 dippers who are braving the icy waters.”

Goddard said there were a number of team entries but, “we have a lot of individual dippers who they themselves wanted to take the plunge and challenge themselves and raise money to support a really important cause.”

Goddard was quick to express her gratitude to the many volunteers and sponsors who helped make the day possible.
