Sharks win at home, fall at Dresden

Sixes were wild last week as the Wheatley Omstead Sharks experienced a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde outcome in a pair of games.

Wednesday at home, backed by Ryder Grossi, Seth Zylstra and Brandon Ferguson each notching their first tallies of the season, the Sharks swamped the Walpole Island Wild enroute to a dominating 6-2 victory.

Josh Chauvin with two and Colton Selwood rounded out the scoring. Michael Sampson steadied the team until they got untracked midway through the first with a solid 24-save performance. The Sharks peppered the visiting tender with 46 blasts.

There’s not much to report on Friday’s visit to Dresden with the Sharks firing blanks, falling behind by three after the first, going down to a 6-0 whitewash. Adam Flanagan faced 48 shots with the Sharks responding with 26. Over 100 minutes in penalties were handed out in the chirpy affair.

A member of the coaching staff commented, “When we’re committed we can compete with the league’s top talent. We will have to find a way to be consistent as the season continues.”

The Sharks host their annual Pink at the Rink breast cancer awareness night Wednesday the 14 at 7:30 against Mooretown, visit Lakeshore on the 18th, and are at Dresden for 3 pm start on Sunday the 18th, then return to host Blenheim on the 21st.
