Blades prove sharper than Sharks

While normally consistent at home, the Wheatley Omstead Sharks were outgunned and cut down last week against the Blenheim Blades.

Play was even through the first period with shots at 10 each but only Blenheim would tally.

They upped their lead to three at the three-quarter mark of the second before Austin Fraser narrowed the gap late to breathe some life into the home team entering the third. They carried a 15-13 shot advantage in the second but could not convert that to the scoresheet.

The third period was summed up by coach Kyle Quick noting, “Discipline is what we are lacking right now, hard to muster any offence when we’re killing penalties so often.”

Blenheim jumped on this discipline issue in the third converting a major Sharks’ penalty with two power play markers. They closed the game with two more to coast to a 7-1 victory.

“Five-on-five, we can compete with anyone,” added Quick. “The more we stay out of the box, the easier it will be for us to turn our efforts to points in the standings.”

The Sharks host Amherstburg on Wednesday the 28th and visit Lakeshore on the 30th to close out October.
