Kings and queens take over Colasanti’s Tropical Gardens

An annual tradition for over 20 years, the Colasanti-Optimist Chess Tournament featured 250 aspiring grandmasters on Saturday, April 5.

Participants were made up of grade one to eight students from around the county and were assisted by enthusiastic members of the Kingsville Optimist Club along with 50 volunteers made up of high school students and parents.

Organizer Linda Lauzon of the Optimists was thrilled with the turnout and how the game has grown over the years.

To further the growth of chess in the area, the Optimist Club of Kingsville proudly presented a $1,000 cheque to Windsor Elite Chess as the competition heated up. Each tournament participant received a piece of hardware and a Colasanti’s prize bundle that was sponsored by both Colasanti’s and the Optimists.

The Optimist Club of Kingsville made a generous donation of $1,000 to Windsor Elite Chess during the annual tournament at Colasanti’s Tropical Gardens.
