U11B Blazers take silver in Silver Stick

The U11B Talbot Trail Blazers team traveled to Chatham on the December 13 weekend to compete in the Silver Stick qualifier tournament and brought home the silver medal.

Friday morning saw the Trail Blazers face a South Kent Lightning team in a close game ending in a 1-1 tie.

The Blazers followed up with a solid team game resulting in a commanding 8-0 win over the Strathroy Jr. Rockets.

The final game of the round robin saw the Trail Blazers face off in a hard fought battle against the Norfolk Knights. The game ended in a 4-4 tie, sending the team to the semi-finals on Sunday.

After an early first period goal for the Blazers in the semi-final game versus Haldimand River Kings, the game would need to be decided in a shootout. With three shooters finding the back of the net, Talbot Trail prevailed, securing a spot in the finals.

With a quick two-hour turnaround, the Trail Blazers were back on the ice to face the Kent Cobras. The championship game provided much excitement with multiple lead changes.

Down by one with an empty net, the Blazers tied the game with 22 seconds to go, forcing a sudden death overtime period.

The two teams went back and forth, but after 10 minutes the game was still tied, sending them to the second shootout of the day.

Kent took the win in the shootout, with the Blazers taking the silver medal.
